Los Angeles is an incredible location, so much glamour, a must see for any travel fan. Undoubtedly among Santa Monica’s most iconic landmarks and one of LA’s top attractions, Santa Monica Pier dates back over 100 years. Home to the Pacific Park amusement park, the pier is recognizable for its solar-paneled Ferris wheel and rollercoaster, and it also boasts an original 1920s carousel hippodrome and the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium. Though open all year round, the pier comes into its own during the summer months when it plays host to concerts, movie screenings and other activities, many of which are free to the public.
While the Natural History Museum has numerous galleries and an extensive permanent collection that covers a range of topics, it is best known for its collection of dinosaurs. The 14,000-square-foot Dinosaur Hall has an awesome display of dinosaur skeletons, including a series of Tyrannosaurus rex fossils, known as the growth series, featuring three full skeletons that range from baby to adult. Also on display are a Triceratops and a Stegosaurus. The museum deals with the natural history of California and areas throughout the world. Becoming Los Angeles, which explores the past 500 years of history in Southern California, is another must-see exhibit. The Age of Mammals offers a look at evolution, climatic changes, and shifting continents. Mammals are further explored in exhibits that focus on specific continents. The Discovery Center offers hands-on experiences and is particularly interesting for younger visitors. Need to travel to Los Angeles and searching for a mansion to rent? The world’s most famous shopping lane is a worthwhile Los Angeles tourist attraction, especially if you’re into designer labels and luxurious goods—or even just window-shopping and fancy-people-watching. Beverly Hills offers free 40-minute tours of this tony district via its open-air trolley. Grab a bite at one of the trendy restaurants, and keep an eye out for celebrities—this area teems with them. You haven’t seen any of the L.A. tourist attractions if you haven’t seen the beach. So make the drive out to Malibu and sink your toes into the soft sand on one of Malibu’s expansive beaches, including Zuma, Point Dume, and Paradise Cove. The views from the shore—leaping dolphins, craggy bluffs, incredible sunsets—are distinctly Californian and completely unforgettable. When you’re ready to eat, drink, or shop, head to Malibu Country Mart, a stylish outdoor shopping center with a fantastic playground for children.
Free things to do in LA : Visit Hollywood Forever Cemetery: As one of our oldest California tourist attractions, fans still gather at this Hollywood landmark, every August 23 to pay homage to Rudolph Valentino. Cecil B. DeMille and Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. also rest here. Catch outdoor movies during the summer for a fee and Day of the Dead celebrations in November, too. Step back in time 100 years: The Victorian era had its influence on local architecture, as evidenced by the homes in the 1300 block of Carroll Avenue in Angelino Heights. Bradbury Building: The one-of-a-kind interior features a five-story atrium finished with glazed bricks and wrought-iron grillwork (including the cage elevator that will be familiar from the many movies filmed here).
Tucked away in a 16-square-bloock area known as the Golden Triangle in the exclusive neighborhood of Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive is L.A.’s most famous shopping street. While few come to buy the high-priced designer clothing and accessories sold in the luxury shops, Rodeo Drive is nevertheless a tourist hot spot. Window-shopping is irresistible on this avenue of haute couture, and there’s always the chance of spotting a celebrity shopping for the latest styles. The mini-mall at Two Rodeo Drive always attracts attention. With its “faux-European” architecture and cobblestone street, it looks more like a theme park than a mall.
